Notes:
Despite the confusing description on the Cower skill, it's a pretty simple ability: when your pet Cowers, he lowers his threat towards the target and makes the target more likely to attack someone else. In other words, he tries to lose aggro.
In solo play, hunters largely use their pets as tanks -- and that means we want our pets to keep aggro, not lose it! -- so Cower is not generally considered a very useful skill for solo play. Some hunters have found a use for it in group play and raids, but others find that simply not using Growl is sufficient and skip Cower all together.
Perhaps the most important thing to remember about Cower is this: If you have just tamed a pet that knows Cower, or if you have decided to train your pet with Cower for group play, remember to turn it off when you don't need it! Otherwise Cower and Growl will cancel each other out and may cause you some difficulty.
